He is really good!<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none;\" align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">It has been a familiar melody to my ear for decades it seems. Shines a light on a memory.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none;\" align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Prior to connecting with my marriage partner in second year Medical School, I enjoyed a couple of years of being single. Now that I think back, maybe it was just one. <span style=\"font-size: large;\">My memory fails me. <\/span>Wow, did I pack a lot of male interactions into that year (or two). This was the short window between my first lover (2 years together) and my marriage partner. I chose to find a Summer Research job as I felt it would \u201clook good on a resume\u201d. Not looking as chipper as I was&#8230;<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none;\" align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">I was always a little insecure about my place within the Medical School. It was my perception that I was one of the last to be let in. But I got in! So that is the main thing, right? I was always looking for the biggest experience I could within the range of choices. So I found a job in the Intensive Care Unit \u2013 quite exciting! (In a morbid kind of way). That summer, Edmonton was hit by a tornado.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_562\" style=\"width: 237px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/disabledangel.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/AngeleCHEST.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-562\" class=\"wp-image-562\" src=\"https:\/\/disabledangel.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/AngeleCHEST.jpg\" alt=\"Sitting in the hotel waiting to present to the American Academy of CHEST Physicians\" width=\"227\" height=\"411\" srcset=\"https:\/\/disabledangel.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/AngeleCHEST.jpg 1176w, https:\/\/disabledangel.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/AngeleCHEST-165x300.jpg 165w, https:\/\/disabledangel.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/AngeleCHEST-565x1024.jpg 565w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 227px) 100vw, 227px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-562\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sitting in the Hotel Suite waiting to present to the American Academy of CHEST Physicians<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none;\" align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Many were killed and the ICU filled up that day with victims. My research was a bit of a yawn \u2013 the Thermic Effect of Feeding. Results were negative&#8230;but the upside: I presented the <em>findings<\/em> in Anaheim, California at a conference for the American College of CHEST physicians. Sounds impressive, don&#8217;t you think? All in the name of Science&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none;\" align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Second trip to Disneyland! Just as good as when I was a kid.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none;\" align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Another significant detail is that I was &#8216;conveniently located&#8217; one floor below the Neurological ICU where my dear cousin, of my own age, spent significant time after surviving a ruptured brain aneurysm that very same summer. Pretty heavy&#8230; Happy ending!!\u00a0 A Miracle&#8230;<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none;\" align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">So in my role as a Summer Research Student, I met many other students doing the same. Connected to a small group, two from England (guy and gal, not romantically connected) and one from Ireland. Love those Europeans! So being my friendly Canadian self, I offer to drive the threesome to see the <a href=\"https:\/\/disabledangel.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/999442_358997604230876_1179439132_n.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-596\" src=\"https:\/\/disabledangel.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/999442_358997604230876_1179439132_n-218x300.jpg\" alt=\"999442_358997604230876_1179439132_n\" width=\"347\" height=\"478\" \/><\/a>mountains and on to Vancouver. Managed to get in a night of camping in the mountains. Fond memories of Mr. England and I \u201cnecking\u201d (kissing) as quietly as we could in the tent \u2013 not to disturb the others- into the wee hours. He was an amazing kisser. So good, you really had no need to have sex somehow. (And we never did.) That good. Dropped the two English students in Vancouver. Mr. Ireland and I enjoyed the long drive back to Edmonton. Mr. Ireland was the only one of the three who would call Edmonton home for a while. He entered into my life fully- hanging out with my roommate and I doing all that we did. I saw him as a close buddy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none;\" align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">One day he surprises me by writing out the lyrics to \u201cYour Song\u201d and giving them as a show of his affection.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none;\" align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/D9AFMVMl9qE\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Your Song cover by Ellie Goulding<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none;\" align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Blindsided! Did not see that one coming&#8230; I was not feeling it and was really uncomfortable with him feeling as he professed. The poem was quickly followed by thoughtful gifts and verbal expressions&#8230;of love. He certainly knew me well. Today, I would be extremely flattered as it was so authentic. It saddens me to think about my response at the time. I did not want to lose my friend <b>and<\/b> I did not want to have to deal with our feelings not matching. I was mean about it. God help me.\u00a0 In Medical School, I was pretty self-absorbed&#8230;and clueless apparently.\u00a0 The saddest part as I look through the retrospectoscope (Doctor speak for looking back in time) is that I did not love myself&#8230;and thus could not receive love either. He treated me so well. He was a Beautiful Spirit. And I was incapable of loving him back. Painful once I became aware of this&#8230;years later. I was deep into my marriage by this time, reflecting on why I did not have love in my marriage as I desired. Your relationships reflect <b>you<\/b>. Ouch!! That smarts&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none;\" align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Well I have done the Forgiveness Prayer for Mr. Ireland. Closure&#8230;\u00a0 &#8220;That was easy&#8221;.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none;\" align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">I would have liked to talk to him but had not maintained contact info. His name was very common so hard to find. No Facebook then. I know that all is healed&#8230;within <b>me<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none;\" align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Really loved reading a summary of <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.oprah.com\/spirit\/The-Bounce-Back-Book_1\/1\" target=\"_blank\">Karen Salmansohn&#8217;s \u201cThe Bounce Back Book\u201d<\/a><\/strong> shortly after separating from my marriage partner.\u00a0 My marriage partner was the one who so very thoughtfully &#8220;signed me up&#8221; to Oprah&#8217;s subscription list, as the marriage was unraveling, enabling me to see Karen&#8217;s wisdom.\u00a0 Came at the perfect time.\u00a0 She offered 10 tips to Bounce Back.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none;\" align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Tip 1:\u00a0 Be a forward thinker.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none;\" align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"> Tip 2:\u00a0 What you are going through now is normal.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none;\" align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Tip 3:\u00a0 There is no such thing as normal.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none;\" align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Tip 4:\u00a0 <strong>Feeling<\/strong> means you&#8217;re dealing means you&#8217;re healing.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none;\" align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Tip 5:\u00a0 Turn over a new <strong>Belief<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Tip 6: Think Like a Lion<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>A star lion tamer with Barnum &amp; Bailey Circus, Graham Tomas Chipperfield, got bitten by Sheba, one of his 500-pound lionesses. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Before the mauled tamer got back into the cage, he made very sure to see what happened from Sheba&#8217;s point of view. He recognized how <a href=\"https:\/\/disabledangel.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/1558575_10152208743048685_1580135792_n.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-593\" src=\"https:\/\/disabledangel.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/1558575_10152208743048685_1580135792_n-275x300.jpg\" alt=\"1558575_10152208743048685_1580135792_n\" width=\"379\" height=\"413\" srcset=\"https:\/\/disabledangel.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/1558575_10152208743048685_1580135792_n-275x300.jpg 275w, https:\/\/disabledangel.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/1558575_10152208743048685_1580135792_n.jpg 499w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 379px) 100vw, 379px\" \/><\/a>lions tend to think of the trainer as another lion. And so when he bounded into the cage to break up a fight between Sheba and another lion, Sheba merely figured Chipperfield wanted to join in the fight too.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Did Chipperfield sit around blaming Sheba for her inaccurate thinking? No. Instead he took the time to see the biting from Sheba&#8217;s perspective, so he&#8217;d make sure this bad event would not happen again.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Robert Staub, a psychologist who counsels people who have been through failure, would agree with the Chipperfield philosophy. He says that the main cause of career and relationship failure is &#8220;not being able to adopt the viewpoint of others.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>For this reason, many therapists\u2014beginning with Freud\u2014have clients role-play a situation from the offending party&#8217;s perspective. The hope is that by understanding why someone might have emotionally taken a bite out of them, the patient can avoid being bitten again!<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in;\" align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Tip 7:\u00a0 Happiness is a choice:\u00a0 Not just a matter of genes or good luck.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in;\" align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Tip 8:\u00a0 Get some ZZZZZ&#8217;s (sleep).\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in;\" align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Tip 9:\u00a0 Think of life as a gigantic Ice Cream Parlor with infinite numbers of flavors to taste.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in;\" align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Tip 10:\u00a0 Use vacations as restorations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in;\" align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">I had posted this on my <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pages\/Beautiful-Truth\/235407056543386?ref_type=bookmark\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Beautiful Truth<\/strong><\/a> Facebook page on October 10, 2012. I added the comment: <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in;\" align=\"LEFT\"><a name=\"js_16\"><\/a><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Beautiful Truth To my mind, Tip #6 is\u00a0<strong>very<\/strong> important (maybe often overlooked?). <\/span><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><b>You<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-size: large;\"> are always &#8220;in there&#8221; &#8211; in any difficulty, Beautiful experience, challenge. If you cannot figure out how <\/span><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><b>you <\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-size: large;\">connected <\/span><span style=\"font-size: large;\">to <\/span><span style=\"font-size: large;\">this event, likely you will see more of that type of event come your way (or feel helpless, powerless).
